Cheaper than Replacing

Most products or services that are 'green' or have an eco benefit come with a 20 to 40% premium over comparable items or services. Many people are surprised to hear that we can refinish a countertop cheaper in most cases than a renovator can replace it. We had a local renovator give a quote on replacing an average sized countertop that was L-shaped plus 2 seperate small section with a good quality countertop. The reason we specified a good quality countertop is because the cheap countertops being sold in most big box stores is hardly worth putting in your home. We see 5 year old countertops that are worn out and already wearing through the laminate. His quote to replace was $1250 and if there were plumbing issues, backsplash damage or cabinet damage, the real price would be higher. Our price to refinish the same countertop was a firm price of $675.00. That was a couple of years ago and as some renovators are short on work, the replacement cost has come down, in some cases, a few hundred dollars.

New Website

We have spent the last 9 months making the transition from ecocountertops to EcoRefinishers. The logo had to be reworked and Josiah Jost of Siah's Designs, www.siahdesign.com is credited with the original leaf design which we used with ecocountertops, and modified the text to become EcoRefinishers. Kimberley Dawson of Blue Banana Marketing, www.bluebananamarketing.ca worked on the text and layout with us. Jesse Barton and his team from Divine Designs.ca did the design and layout of the website. Gabriel Hounsome of Beebo Enterprises, www.beeboent.com did the coding and worked with Jesse to make it all come together.
All of the artwork has also been redesigned so that we have a new streamlined look.
Thank you to each one who was involved and the dealers for their patience as the changes were taking place.

Eco Curing Countertops

One of the challenges we have had was the curing time for countertops. We would ask the home owner to leave it for about 24 hours, then it needed gentle use while it hardened. Sometimes things would happen and we would be back to do a touch up, something we wanted to get past.
We recently changed the sealer coat to a UV cured system so that the surface of the countertop is fully cured when we leave the home. Not only do we have the benefit of an instantly cured surface, the finish is harder and more durable than the water based system we were previously using.
This is also a benefit for restaurants, hotels, motels, bars, commercial buildings etc. as they could close their business one day, and open the next day with their working surfaces ready to use!!
Because the product uses photo initiators, it actually has zero VOC's.
The finish is a little shinier, but enriches the colours for a truly beautiful finish.

TV interview for Ecocountertops

I recently had the opportunity to be interviewed on Rogers Daytime TV. Diane McGee who heads a mentoring organization in Barrie Ontario called Wings and Heros saw me at a networking function and asked me if I had been on Rogers TV yet. When I told her I hadn't, she said she would put in a word for me and true to her word, I go a call a few weeks later asking if I would like to be interviewed. It was a great experience and I appreciate the exposure as the show aired 3 times in 24 hours in Simcoe County.

Tile Backsplash

One of the hardest things to change in the kitchen is the tile backsplash. We have been asked hundreds of times if we can change it without ripping it out. Seeing many backsplashes I wonder ' What were they thinking when they picked those tiles!'. To change a tile backsplash has meant ripping off the old tile, which usually takes the drywall with it. Putting on new drywall, taping and mudding, then installing new tiles with grout etc. You can count on a week of mess, disrupted lifestyle, dust everywhere and grit in your food. That's why so many ugly backsplashes stay ugly and people try to decorate around it.

We have been experimenting with water based products that will prepare the tiles for a colour change. We have succeeded and now have a durable process to change the colour of the backsplash with one of our more than 40 beautiful colours. The cost is only a fraction of the price of replacing without all that mess. We can also touch it up if it gets damaged in the future, the same as with countertops.

There will be more information on our website shortly.
